College and professional players compete in this summer league, better known as “league 2” or “npsl.” It is a competition that lasts approximately 2 or 3 months and is played from the beginning of May to the middle of August, which makes it a perfect league to test the waters of American soccer.
The players use this league to make themselves known in front of the “scouts” who are always pending to sign players to incorporate them into their lineups.
Many MLS franchises like Seattle Sounders, Portland Timbers or Philadelphia Union compete in the summer league and send their younger players to the league to gain experience for the next season.
University coaches sign a large number of players in these leagues and additionally, they have the majority of their players competing in the summer league to arrive in top condition at the beginning of preseason.
The summer league is an excellent opportunity to measure yourself against professionals and the best college players all the while meeting people from all over the world.
